Meet Kruegermann Pickles!

Kruegermann Pickles has been in Frogtown for over 55 years. We have been able to thrive in the neighborhood due to the excellent pool of employable people, central location and close proximity to the DTLA produce market. Our great-grandfather started the original Kruegermann Pickle company in 1896 along the Spree River 60 miles south-east of Berlin, Germany. This area known as the Spreewald/Spree Forest is today an UNESCO protected biosphere. This unique area has fertile soil which gave rise to businesses pickling the abundant crops grown. Today the area still has a large pickling industry. Pickles are the culinary art of the region with its own protected designation of origin.

Due to the communist takeover of the family business, our father Kurt and mother Helga left east Germany in 1961. They purchased a property in Frogtown that was zoned M2, which is where the Pickle company is located today. It was our father’s dream to build a business based upon traditions of his homeland. Through hard work and tenacity, the Kruegermann Pickle Company in Los Angeles grew.

Today, brothers Greg and Carl Kruegermann continue the tradition of producing pickled and fermented vegetable products. Kruegermann Pickles and Sauerkraut can be found in specialty stores across the U.S. and New Zealand.

We have seen many changes in Frogtown, especially in the last 10 years. We are proud to be part of this community and look forward to watching it evolve.
